View Full Version : I have changed my mind.

As a European I have changed my mind over the last few weeks. I have spent too long thinking “If I was American who would I vote for”. I am not American so I need to think what is best for me.

I was originally for Kerry but the more I read into the issues the more I prefer Bush as the next (same) president.

America is in my opinion too strong. We have gone from a cold war standoff situation to a single super power who acts selfishly, totally independent from the consensus of world opinion.

That is not a good situation creating as it does uncertainty.

It is important for world stability that America loses its dominating position. It will always be a major force but it can not be allowed to act / interfere unilaterally in global issues. We need Europe to be able to match America on a world stage and to moderate their behaviour.

George Bush represents the best chance for Europe. He has made the poor in America poorer has turned surpluses into debt and has committed billions of pounds chasing an ideological rather then real threat.

America is however not yet sufficiently economically weakened. We need them to suffer further. Ideally they could spend fortunes attacking another country, committing resources indefinitely.

Their perceived arrogant attitude has turned 9/11 goodwill away from America. Europe needs to capitalise on this and take the place of America in terms of exploiting mutually beneficial trade agreements.

Continued overspending for the next four years along with the further distancing of national relationships is needed to weaken America to an economic state where it must concentrate on its own internal economic crisis rather than on global events.

Then Europe will hopefully have acclimatised the new entrants and will be in a position to capitalise from a position of strength, However we need America to continue on its current course so for that I hope Bush wins.

Add in that any loss of conferdence in the dollar is likely to stregthen the euro thereby benefitting the uk and you have a pretty good case (plus I've got a sig line lined up for a bush win).

Maybe organize a late spate of emails to US citizens voting in key states from politicians in France & Germany explaining why Kerry is also their choice?

Well everything that can be done has been done so I may as well point out that we do have more sophisticated methods.

You can't imagine the trouble it took to get the Democrats to adopt a french speaking charmless candidate with a clever foreign wife.

So it's a case of alia jacta est and a bientot;)

As an American, I actually agree with this. During the Cold War, things were sort of OK, because neither side was going to be stupid enough to do a nuclear first strike. Now it's kind of dangerous to have just one superpower.

I don't think it's too smart to want another four years of Bush, though. That's just spite talking. Because there's a hell of a lot of capital left, and there are a lot of destructive things Bush could do given four more years.
