With up-and-comming events in:

Middle East - Pick a country.
Asia - Pakistan etc.
Pacific Rim - N.Korea, China.

When America goes to war, will it be alone?

No.

If America initiates the hostilities, then yes, they will do so alone. After Iraq, which country would go in with us?

Well, it sort of depends on what the other guy is doing....

Say, if N. Korea suddenly pours 1,000,000 men across the S. Korean border, I rather think most everyone will either sign on to help or stay "friendly neutral" (not fighting but cutting off trade/relations with the North.

On the other hand, if we suddenly make noises about Syria and move two divisions of troops to the border, I rather think getting a willing coalition will be rather difficult.

Always someone dancing on the side..depends which tune is being played.

What sort of history books do you have in America...Or are they just for heating the still?

He's not American, he's Australian. He was saying that Australia will probably go to war with the U.S.

As somebody already answered, it will depend on the conditions. I can't imagine ANY country signing a blank alliance check, and few western countries that would not participate under the "right" conditions.

You will not get more than a token force. You main allies don't have anything else left.

I don't think the US can afford another war.

That would be so cool. And about time, too--they've been invading us continually since H.G. Wells' day.

- Unrealistic scenario anyway what with everything tied up in Iraq. We already have the National Guard deployed, boots in the sand, and stop-lossed to contain attrition... we don't have the troops to fight an additional war. We have the bombs, but not the troops.

- So maybe that's an even scarier scenario. Sorry.

When America goes to war, will it be alone? No. We'll be fighting Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time. So we technically will not be alone.

Then the help request could be "we need our troops to invade another country, would you replace our troops in Iraq, the situation is stable enough there for the small number of low tech troops you can deploy(no the press is lying about situation, we do not have a bomb every day, only every other)?"

Hey thinking about this, i finally see a good reason, why its a bad idea for german government(at least from their pov) to even indicate, that they might one day send troops to Iraq, that way US cannot start planning the next war.

Not to mention that, based on past actions since 9/11, Bush has a track record of 50% of his wars not targetting terrorism, while Germany has a track record of supporting 100% of all wars against terrorism and stationing troops in 100% of all countries where a coalition has kicked out terrorists and religious fanatics.

The reply from (continental) Europe will be: "Give us a war against terrorism, and you will get troops. Give us a war against some petty dictator you just want to depose, and screw you."
