Those are awesome. I particularly like the one on the bottom right. The country looks like a lump of crayons that has been partially digested by a monkey, then regurgitated and flung at someone in a rage. Sums up my feelings about modern politics.

The problem with the all-too-common Red-Blue state media analysis, in addition to failing to fully articulate pronounced differences in population, is that the country is actually largely divided along rural and urban lines.

If looked at by county, California and New York would be considered "red" states.

I think it's interesting that in this picture (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/mapcolorslarge.png) the Appalacian Mountians are fairly visible.

I prefer this (http://www.esri.com/industries/elections/graphics/results2004_lg.jpg) one. I find the blobby maps somewhat disturbing, and I really can't tell what any of the blobs actually means.
