Forgive me if these thoughts appear unrelated or off topic but they are peripherily related (at least , in my crazy head).
I am concerned about the approaches the US has taken in many matters lately.
I may be mistaken, but it is my understanding the US chose not to ratify a UN World Court framework to keep from being limited in US "military options" abroad.
This decision not to ratify was made even before 9/11. US foreign, economic, and environmental pollicies are increasingly "protectionist".
The US is moving more toward uni-lateral approaches in its foreign policy.
This concerns me. The US's approach lately on the following issues have irked many European and Pacific Rim countries:
Weopon's Development
ICBMs/Nuclear Proliferation
Land Mines
World Court/Accountibility in military engagements
Disposal of Toxic Materials
Kyoto Accord/Emission Reduction
Aids Epidemic/Foreign Aid
there are others I may have missed.
The US demonstrates its sovereignty and wisdom by going a path contrary to the "world community" on all these issues, and allienates the "allies" that ratified many of the agreements/plans that were concerned with these issues.
The US relations with many "allies" was quickly souring before 9/11 for its contrary and unilateral approaches.
Bush communicates his nation is right, it has the might, and it has a mission inspired by the classic battle of Good and Evil!
This may be causing more of a rift between the secular "allies" and the Evangelical Bush Administration.
Add to that:
the need for Bush to all but declare that the US is God's champion in the war on terrorism and against anti-democratic nations.
Bush all but declares the US will defeat the Evil in this world because God is on the side of (the Godly) GOOD, the coalition of the willing, and democracy, and the (I did not know the three were synonomous).
Bush prays publicly, and there appears to be a growing incursion of Bush's faith in his policies and his public addresses, assuring all that he, his administrations policies, administration, and actions are godly.
I may think of others later!
As I try and develop some coherent thoughts that I can add (not that I am sure I am coherent in this post) I will add them.
I may be babbling now but watch out!
PPG
Evil-doers beware! For Gods wrath will be delivered by the mighty righteous force which is the USA! - a very liberal paraphrase of Bush's statements over the last few weeks. (therefore not exactly a quote)
