Mother of slain woman finds comfort from psychic
A three-hour telephone session with a West Coast psychic provided Susan Tusing of Dell with a sense of well-being, and law enforcement with bits of information that may ultimately help in the investigation into her 20-year-old daughter's death.
Craighead County Sheriff's Department criminal investigator Gary Etter noted psychic Carla Baron of Los Angeles said Amanda R. "Mandy" Tusing was murdered in 2000, and provided him with vivid details about a male perpetrator.
The psychic even offered to Etter what the sheriff's department never garnered from the FBI -- a complete physical description, psychological profile and personal history of the alleged killer.
Same old, same old. But this is why psychics are lower than scum:
Tusing said some of Baron's remarks during their session resulted in tears. Others chilled her, she told The Sun.
...
"Here I am at home in Dell," Tusing said. "She is in California.
"(Baron) asked me if there was a blue book close to where I was sitting. There was."
...
Once it was determined that the blue book was within Tusing's reach, Baron said she told the mother to "open it randomly to a page, quickly, without looking, and to place her finger" somewhere on that page.
"That was a message from the daughter to her mother," Baron said. "It was so beautiful, so poignant at the moment that Susan broke out in tears."
...
"It was a message that actually applied right at the moment," Baron continued. "In this case, this is her daughter saying there may have been a grander scheme to all this."
The message was a New Testament Bible verse, Tusing confirmed Friday -- 1st Thessalonians 5:15.
"It read 'See that no one repays another with evil for evil; but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people,'" Tusing said. "I had to think about it a little bit.
Full story (http://www.jonesborosun.com/archivedstory.asp?ID=7646)
Baron lets the mother do the work: If there had been no blue book, then Baron would just move on to something else. But, when the blue book is found, Baron lets the mother do the interpretation.
Lower than scum.

Any word on how much she charged her?
Also, I feel bad for any guy with the physical description the woo-woo gave the police.

This is another reason why psychics are dangerous: They can accuse people of crimes, but never be held responsible for it, should the prediction go wrong. Hey, it was the spirit who dunnit!
How will the defense interrogate a spirit?
And we know, that the mere accusation is enough to destroy a person's life. People will gossip, people will spread rumors.
A society that accepts psychic evidence is one step away from the witch processes.

In Kurosawa's film 'Rashomon', the spirit of the dead husband is called by a mystic to give his version of his death.
See, it always works in the movies, so it just HAS to work in real life.
... I hope the police department sticks with forensic evidence.

We know that grief-stricken relatives are not in a position to be expected to think critically. We know that Carla Baron is a ghoulish scum, feeding on their grief for her own gain.
But the reporter who wrote this article should be taken to task. Even though it was a fluffy human-interest piece, it's written with a degree of credulousness that concerns me.
Is there anyone on the board in Arkansas, who could write a letter?

Same old, same old. Claus Flodin Larsen, still ploddin' and troddin' along with his same old agenda. What I don't understand is why Claus Flodin has such a PROBLEM with people being comforted by psychics? If it brings some people pleasure, then what that HELL is it to Claus??? I mean, isn't that THEIR business?
Guess what, Claus Flodin. There will always be people who believe in psychics. And there will NEVER be PROOF that psychics are not on to something. I swear, Claus Flodin, isn't it high time you started singing a different tune?!?!?!

I can do that, lets see...he's a strong man, likely a loner, with dark features.I see a manual worker of sorts with an aggressive temper.I would say he is dangerous also!
Hope that helps the FBI!;)

Maybe you should have read CFL's post:

When the police start listening, it *is* a problem.
If there is no evidence for it, and no evidence against it, then the proper thing to do is ignore it.
P.S. Anybody who usies that many smileys cannot be mentally stable.

Could someone tell this moron that Flodin does not rhyme with "ploddin'" or "troddin'"?
Or would that be cruelty? I mean, it seems to be cynical's only source of joy.

No, it's not her only source of joy. She also can't figure out what LeFevre is doing in his avatar. And she can't figure out what mine is. And she always has the John Edward disgustion site.
Really, one shouldn't mind Cynical. If the Brainsucker monster latched onto Cynical's head, it would starve to death.

I would be happy to acknowledge that "Flodin" doesn't rhyme with ploddin' or troddin' - if someone would kindly tell me how the hell it IS pronounced. That seems to be a taboo question around here, as well as Suezoled's and LeFevre's silly-looking avatars.
So, how IS "Flodin" pronounced"?? I don't expect Claus himself to inform us, but does ANYBODY know? I doubt it. One thing's for sure, though - if I had a middle name such as Flodin, I SURE wouldn't reveal it to anyone, as Claus so proudly did.
Funny how Sue and Chani always pop up when I pop in here. You two can't deny that you've missed me.:p

If you tell me your middle name I can make fun of you and tell you how silly it sounds in Swedish.

Hey, Vitnir - I have heard the name Emil before. Nothing strange about it; it is a common name even here in the USA.
But "Flodin"....come on now. Have YOU ever heard of it?
Flodin.....:D... OMIGOD, I'd better start thinking of something else or I'll go into another hour-long laughing jag....

Flodin, Flodin...
No, I'm just really not seeing that as particularly funny.
Still it's probably better to focus on ridiculing people's middle names and avatars rather than wondering how we could deal with the problem of fraudulent psychics and the damage (mental and monetary) that they can do to vulnerable grieving victims.
Yes that certainly seems like we've got our priorities straight

Cynical could make a point here if she had the wits:
CFL said that mediums are "lower than scum," implying, I think, that -all- mediums are scum. But he cited only a single instance of scummy behavior on one medium's part; in other words, he used "anecdotal evidence" to back up his generalization.
Now who behaves that way, skeptics or believers? Bad on you, CFL! And Cynical was gravely, seriously wrong not to jump on you for it!
Of course mediums have been crawling out of their holes and pulling rancid tricks, and exploiting grief is one of the oldest of them, for long centuries. CFL could probably cite many more anecdotes to support this - so many, in fact, that they cease to be anecdotes and become a body of evidence.
Or he could just be content to say, "The medium in this story is a grubby patch of scum floating down the gutter of society." Heck, I couldn't put it better myself.
As for Flodin: Danish vowels being what they are, I'd hesitate to guess how it's pronounced. FLOW-din? FLAW-din? Maybe even FLOW(grunt!)-din?* Doesn't matter; this very small phonological puzzle is clearly beyond Cynical's understanding; but then what isn't?
* CFL: You thought a foreigner wouldn't know about the "Danish push," aka phonemic glottal stricture, now didn't you? Foreigners are tricky, you've got to watch out for them

We had someone at school called Duncan who was reported to have a small 'chap'.
So obviously he garnered the nickname -
'Shrunken Duncan'

I have never seen a medium that was not a scum. I am perfectly willing to be persuaded that a medium is not a scum, meaning with real, psychic abilities.
That's how a skeptic behaves.

I know a very nice older man by the name of Ulf Flodin so actually I had heard it before. Not a very common surname I think.
I also know a guy from Iraq and he told me some "funny" meanings of Swedish names and what they ment in arabic. Annika apparently means "I want to have sex with you".
Pretty childish no matter how you look at it.

That's smart of both of you, bluess and Drooper. When you don't announce your middle name, nobody can make fun of it, right? However.....Drooper?......:D
Anyway, the NAME Flodin itself, although quaint enough, was not what made it so all-out funny. It's the fact that it belongs to such a supposedly distinguished, egg-headed, arrogant know-it-all as Claus. No matter HOW it's pronounced....Floddin, FLOW-din (damn, THAT'S almost worse...sounds like a river that flowed into the sea)......it's funny as hell when you picture the white-haired Claus in all of his dignity.......

You got that right, Ashles. Because there's not a damn thing we can do about the psychics. Everyone has the choice to ignore them, and the idiots that don't....well that's their problem. End of story, that's how we "deal with it".....Claus Flodin Larsen, in particular, seriously needs to find a hobby. I mean, does he do ANYTHING besides sit around and obsess about it? Claus is so hipped on the subject, I'll bet he wonders if psychics really ARE credible. Is he scared??
