I find biblical "prophecy" being related to current events funny. Most of the people who espouse these theories are probably well-meaning but just misinformed.
A. Usually they base part of their arguements on books of the Bible that don't contain prophecy. Basically, the use the cryptic books of the old testament which were actually talking about current events at the time and claim that the cryptic writings were actually future-tellings.
B. Every fricken war has been to be declared a sign of the end. I mean, hello. Sylvia Browne probably has a better prediction rate than evangelical doomsday advocates.
C. These theories seem to be in conflict with other Xian doctrine. Specifically, they put too much emphasis on future events when Xian writings seem to focus living your life well in the here and now.
D. Armageddon theories are also destructive to younger minds. Why go to college if the world is about to end? Why stay in high school? Telling people that the world will end soon is wrong, wrong, wrong because it is a message of hopelessness. When I was a younger man and forced to go church, I had to listen to my share of "end is coming soon" messages. The first thing that popped up in my mind was, "why bother doing anything if tomorrow this all goes away?"
I say we make a list of the doomsday people and when this war is over we hound these false prophets into the ground.
