Kind of reminds me of the Amish that live around me. They shun the modern day conveniences...yet will ride in a car with someone else or use their telephone. Go figure.

But, how dare these terrorists condemn us into the ground if they have ever eaten an American hamburger, or used technologies that the west has provided.

One can conclude that they condemn us infidels as some ruse...some guise for another agenda.

Alot of why Mid Easterners hate the West is precisely because of the technology, the money, the power.

You may be confused in your analysis of middle eastern attitudes. Most people I know are crazy about everything American and it drives the more religious types to fuming. They get the latest music, (even rap), and the latest movies from the US, even though it is in everybody's best interest to boycott. Technology is a different thing, since the better technology doesn't come from the US, it comes from Korea, Hong Kong, Japan. American cell phones are always locked to American phone companies and can't even be used out here.

OBL, by the way, loves technology. Used sattelite phones and e-mail and complained about how backward the Taliban was (according to an Foreign Policy article). He is certainly not allergic to CIA $$. The "hate the west" thing is a red herring/wild goose. Really he wants to trick Americans into a bloody conflict to drive out corrupt rulers, but keep the technology rolling.

If anybody wanted, in any country, they could easily come up with a new generation of technology that would make everyone else's technology obsolete. A lot of smart Americans are starting to work overseas and are able and willing to teach whatever you want, (wait until a programmers brain is considered a national security asset -- like in bad cyberpunk novels). Seems like there is just a lack of drive still.

You see, they denounce us because of those very things I listed. But, we don't denopuince *them* because of their oil.

Look at religious man Osama in his robe and turban,wandering the wilderness like some old testament prophet might have done. But alas...he uses our stuff.

Now just cause we use *THEIR* stuff, their oil...*that* is different. We aren't attacking them because they have instilled their will of forcing their oil and related technologies on us. *BUT*, the Muslim loonies over there are in essence doing that very thing with us. They think we and are lifestyle is evil. They probably blame internet filth on us. They probably blame pollution on us. It's probably an endles list that they blame us for, related to some of the very stuff they use...including our weapons technologies.

I wonder who taught them about using ammonium and nitrates to make bombs with, as just an example of this?

I don't recall OBL ever criticising western technology. It is more of a clash of religions, from his point of view, IMHO.

He really doesn't want xians trampling on sacred land, and imposing xianity on his turf. For him it is not envy, another motivation that is commonly stated, for them it is just the other way around, Islam is a superior religion, it is they way of life, there is nothing to envy.

No, instead we have instilled upon them a bunch of totalitarian or monarchical regimes which have made it a family business of mudering, torturing and ripping off the citizenry while we go on FREEDOM RANTS. In case you forgot, Saddam Hussein gassed the Kurds with weapons developed under US auspices for use against Iranians. Before he invaded Kuwait the US didn't give a damn how many people died at his hands. For that matter how is it we can call the Saudi royal family, a clan which subscribes to an interpretation of Islam which disallows women from voting, hacks peoples' limbs off for petty crimes and disallows a free press, one of our key allies.

The reason why so many Arabs hate the US is becasue the US is percieved as not really being interested in democracy around the world, only in its own interests even if it comes at the expense of other people's liberty.

Technology is irrelevant.
