View Full Version : Desperately seeking Colin

So, I'm about to spend $15 on a Colin Fry séance and would like some info on him. I have the old image of him (under the name of Lincoln I presume) with alleged ectoplasm coming out of almost every hole in his body. But I know there used to be some links to some informative stuff about his escapades, maybe even an MPEG or AVI TV-special about his trumpet fraud. All links seems to be broken, though...

I know he sometimes steps down to common folk level on forums and even discuss with skeptics but I would like the juicy bits that some claim have been stopped by his lawyers -- send me a private message if you prefer.

So, who's got some tasty bits on Mistah Colin Fry? Links? Transcripts?

Best regards,
Chateaubriand

You might want to try Jon at Bad Psychics forum,he's also a member on here. He's had a run in with Fry's lawyers and may have the forbidden content.;)

You might also try Steve Grenard - not joking!
IIRC he thinks Fry is probably a fraud because Steve's wife had a reading with him which gave rise to some suspicion. He mentioned it yonks ago on this forum - probably lost now. I believe that Steve now posts as "materia3".

I've seen him on FTN (one of the free digi channels) - he seems like such a wee sweetie. Can't believe he is knowingly fraudulent (if you know what I mean?) He reminds me of a wee gerbil or something...

Gawd, he might sue me now for saying he's a gerbil! I didn't know he was litigious either...

As a rule, a succesful con artist wouldn't look like a successful con artist. They're tricky like that.

Life would be so much easier if all psychics/mediums looked like this:

You are so right! Didn't Doris Stokes look like everyone's granny?

If you want to read more about Colin Fry's séance blunder, a Google on his name and Noah's Ark Society and the Scole Experiment" will throw up some links.

(Hmmm - last time I did this I got the negative report on this event, maybe by Noah's Ark Society themselves. Now, all I get are fairly positive defenses of Mr Fry. And the Noah's Ark Society website seems to be down. I wonder why this is?)

Basically, at a séance, Colin was tied to a chair with plastic tie-wraps. In the darkness, the silly séance trick of "floating a luminous paper trumpet" was observed.

Suddenly, the lights went on (though the lightswitch had been sealed) and Colin was "caught" out of his chair holding the paper trumpet. The tie-wraps were found to have been cut somehow.

He was condemned by some in the circle, then resurrected by the most convoluted argument that said the exposé was set up by "malign spirits" that Colin had let in! Personally, I try to keep away from both the gin and the djinn:)

If you want to laugh (or maybe cry) have a look at the Scole Experiments.

And the kind of discussion that surrounds Colin Fry can be seen here:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?forumid=280394&messageid=1077152853&lp=1078147647

where you can also read about Freda who has the Gold Blue Peter Badge for believers in that supposedly

. . . she held her own on the Randi forum in a discussion with at least 10 sceptics at the same time. (And anyone who has debated with THOSE cynics will know how much effort and knowledge went into THAT !)

TEN WHOLE SCEPTICS against one old lady medium!

Wow!

Wishful Thinking Award:
I agree though that, with night vision scopes and infra red cameras available today, any medium who is fraudulent would be taking a hell of a risk of being caught red-handed. It's a pity that the technology wasn't available in the Victorian heyday of physical seances, because it would have quickly sorted the sheep from the goats and such "policing" would have left the seance room with greater credibility and less suspicion than it has today.

A gerbil produces ectoplasm:

http://www.spiritsinc.co.uk/colin_ectoplasm.html

Freda really "held her own" in the Colin Fry thread by stating:

I have nothing to gain by telling the truth

To some believers, "holding your own" must be like opening a door to a room full of sceptics, shouting "you are all wrong because I said so", then closing the door and running away:)

Ignoring the fact that it sure as hell doesn't look like an infrared photo to me, ectoplasm = sillystring boogers?

ETA: OK, infrared flash lighting... my error. I don't know what that would look like.

Freda "held her own" by essentially alternating between two responses to any question put to her :

1. "Read this 100 year old book. It answers all your questions better than I can - I don't really understand most of this stuff. I just know it works."

2. "I've been told by the leaders of my circle that we are not yet ready to reveal the truth and show the evidence. Perhaps a few more years."
