View Full Version : Praying for victory?

I just saw an article in a French newspaper that said that the US Congress adopted a resolution that recommended prayer, to ensure The US "divine" protection against terrorism and victory in Irak.
It passed with 346 for, 49 against and 23 blanks. Now waiting for senat approval.
Can this really be true? Calling for the Gods? Kind of set us back in History. But as always God will be on the victorious side (if there is any), he is a smart guy.
Any links concerning this would be appreciated

I heard something similar on a Swedish TV news show this morning. Allgedly, President Bush had gotten Congress to approve "a special day of fasting and prayer" to get God's support in the war against Iraq.
I hope this isn't true. Sounds practically medieval.

Maybe a sacrifice too? Virgin? Bucket of fried chicken?
I hope someone is pulling someone's leg.

I so much hoped it would appear on snopes as a HOAX but no:
national day of prayer and fasting (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/C?c108:./temp/~c108Um4wJj)
Forget the good old dream of separation of church and state.
God and the truth is allways on our side.
It will be proven Prayer can help womens fertility, and It can win wars.

Please fell free to bash away. My brain has already been beaten black and blue by the insanity.
If I see one more Toyota SUV plastered with American flags and "God Bless America" bumper stickers, I'm jumping. Or moving to France. Same thing.

If the US has given us nothing else, it has given us the three stooges and splapstic comedy.

IMO G W Bush is "talking" war on a secular level, but he is really "thinking" crusade on a personal level as he just let that slip soon after 9-11

Referencing past successes based on my looks and personality, I'll be heading to KFC for some extra crispy to sacrifice to gawd instead.
Mmmmm, extra crispy fried chicken dipped in a vat of honey! I can almost feel my arteries closing up now!

Senator Rick Santorum (Pa.) introduced Senate bill S. RES. 91 declaring March 17, 2003 to be a national day of prayer and fasting. The idiocy of the resolution is made more apparent by the senator's introducing the bill for a vote on March 17, 2003. Santorum's pinheadedness is also emphasized by choosing the day with the third greatest beer sales in the U.S.
The House passed the same bill (H. RES. 153) on March 20, 2003.
You can look up these bills on the Library of Congress (http://thomas.loc.gov).
