I just head about this the other day. It's the Google Library (http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/pressrel/print_library.html) and I think it's an absolutely fabulous idea. I think the benefits to schools are enormous. I don't come from a particularly small town, but I would still have trouble finding good references for projects or reports for school without having to inter-library loan them. (And when you wait until the last moment to start your project even that can't help you) But this will really help even smaller or more rural communities that just don't have the kind of money for a decent library.
I personally like the tactile feeling of a book in my hands (and it would be hard for me to lug my desktop into bed to read an online book before I sleep) so this isn't going to stop me from continuing to buy books for my own enjoyment. But it will be nice to be able to read some books I don't want to collect but that the local library doesn't have.
