View Full Version : Hey All: Yellow Bamboo Video

Someone posted this video on my website, so I figured I'd archive it to share. Haven't seen another thread on this, so if I'm duplicating something, feel free to berate me for it.

Yellow Bamboo practicioner attempting to stop someone from running up and punching her. Needless to say that hilarity ensues.
For those of you that are really impatient (or still doing cave paintings over 56k) here's an animated version of it:

I don't have any more details than this, so if anyone does please add them.

That was a good punch. Ouch.

Do a forum search on "bamboo" in the title only and you will see several related threads. Also, Randi addressed this type of thing in some recent (last year or so?) commentary.
Your avatar drives me nuts. I always slide down until it disappears. Ever given any thought to just one frame?

To avoid being driven nuts by animated gifs, simply click the stop button. Of course, if you do this before the page has loaded completely, it will stop the page loading too.

I just decided to set my preferences to not show the avatars... makes the pages load faster.
Editted to add: The video link was "file not found".
Plus for added amusement you can see the hilarity that there is when you use "yellow bamboo" in the search box of http://groups-beta.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= ..

You're right, it does make a difference. But somehow I miss those avatars. They kinda add to the posters personality. But I'll survive :)

D'oh. Was .com instead of .net. Fixed the link.
Anyway, how can you NOT like Buzz Aldrin punching a woo in the face for saying the moon landings were a giant conspiracy?

Oh, I liked Buzz's action ... it was probably overdue. But it is hard to cheer it after seeing it hundreds (it seems) times.

Okay, this is amusing... the Yellow Bamboo folks are explaining this video demonstrates how successful their stuff is... It is very funny.

(or just go to http://groups-beta.google.com/ and put in "yellow bamboo" and video, sort for date -- this also gives you the discussion at "alt.surfing"... editted to add the not so bad link from doing that:

I'd say violence never solves anything, but it's so damn entertaining.

I detect a pattern here.
What is it with you and videos of people being punched in the face?

so they claim that punching woman in the face is some kind of psi power?

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
If something like this existed you think all those samauri on the battlefield wouldn't have bothered with armor and sharp weapons.

Actually... the woman claimed she could ward off the punch to her face using her Sooper Dooper Yellow Bambooper chi powers.
She seems to have been rudely disabused of this notion.

The people in the film speaks swedish.
First the attackers says "tell me when you are ready"
After the attack the woman says "no it doesn't work", then "no, no I'm ok" then again "it doesn't work"
"what doesn't work?"
can't hear a few words
then "but how hard did you hit?"

Wow, that attacker must have very strong natural chi power in order to penetrate the defenses of a trained YB practitioner. I highly recommend he go to YB island and send all his money to them so that he can properly train his powers.

I love it also, I just wish you'd repeat the last frame a couple of times so that that poor lady stops getting elbowed in the boob!

Punching people in the face (and conversely, getting punched in the face) is a hobby of mine. Have you been to Bullshido?
We're the rowdy, hooligan, Martial Arts branch of the Skeptical community.
In fact, I'll be getting my face punched (and hopefully punching some faces myself) while some of you are at TAM, less than a few miles away.
Everyone from Randi.org is welcome to come on down, as long as you identify yourself as having a ticket to TAM.

...I'm confused. These videos are on their site, demonstrating what they're "capable" of, yet I see one chick getting smacked pretty decently, and the guy flailing his arms so far out the other guy can only dodge away to avoid getting hit himself. I hope they feel silly at least, I really do.

If you read the Usenet posting from these guys by clicking on the Google Groups links above, you will see that they are declaring the videos as "proof" of it working.
Truly bizarre and amusing reading (absolutely the only reason I ever link to a Yellow Bamboo story).

Anyone know how to filter out the noise so you can hear what they are saying?
And they don't seem to get that the attackers they train on are easier to "deflect" since they are not actually out to hurt them. How is it possible they can think it would also work on a real attacker, fascinating.

I have so many comments, but as I'm new and the Yellow Bamboo discussions have been ongoing, I will presume they have all been said. ;)
I just wanted to mention that I watched these videos, then watched "Napoleon Dynamite" that night and I've come to the conclusion that these clips might actually be scenes from a sequel. The martial arts sequences certainly made me laugh out loud just the same...

In the meantime: Could you come up with a more precise description of the test situation than this?
Go there for the rest of it!
I can see why it must be annoying to be made fun of the way you and the other yellow bamboozlers are ridiculed here, but there are much easier ways to avoid that. Stop being ridiculous!

I am not aware that I have been challenged by Peter S. While I don't like to attack people, I would be more than happy to test his claims in Denmark. Have him email me at editor@skepticreport.com
Thanks.
ETA: I've checked my email and see that he has indeed emailed me. I've been AFK for a week, which is why I haven't seen it.

Thanks for the vid Phrost. I've only ever been able to find this particular test as a .gif file.
The most bizarre part is that the Yellow Bamboo people are brainwashed enough to see these tests as victories for themselves (Though how the could possibly interpret the Australian test as anything but abject failure and humiliation is beyond me). Wasn't there some sort of weird explanation that the Yellow Bamboo techniques didn't work because the "attackers" weren't really trying to kill them? Something like they needed negative chi energy to react with their own and produce the effects? (Wasn't that also one of the special moves in that anime "Ranma 1/2"?)
In a way it sort of reminds me of the George Dillman people who talk about the universal effectiveness of pressure point KOs right up until one of their demonstrations does nothing, at which point they start spouting out the old "well, actually, on 40% of people are vulnerable to this" line. I guess if you want to believe in something bad enough you'll always find an excuse.

Wow, you must be so hard, spouting off like that on the internet. It's interlectual might that wins here, as demonstrated by your revertion to physical threats and Ad Hominim attacks.
