I was aghast. at scenes of American troops having an impromptu church service in the middle of the Iraqi desert in an Islamic country. Are they insane or what!
This will only serve to antagonize Islamic nations and result in in recruitment drive for martyrs on their holy Jihad to enter Iraq which surprise surprise is happening right at this point of time.
Which is quite ironic because Saddam is not all that religious, but he has cunningly turned this into a religious battle against the American crusade.
I agree Saddam has to go, but if American troops bringing in bibles in their back backs, they are only playing into his hands. I suggest they should burn their bibles or at least use it as toilet paper when they are caught short in the desert.

Allah is pleased US forces are in Iraq freeing the Iraqis. Allah also doesn't mind the US troops carrying bibles, which they can anyway because they simply can and no one can say they can't.
The only Islamic people heading into Iraq are those heading there to overthrow Saddam and help the US. It is the will of Allah.

If they want comfort, bring a soft Teddy bear and a photo of Mom

Only a pussy like yourself would be comforted by such things when facing death.

At least they should be discrete about it and not do it publicly out in the open for al-Jezeera to report it and raise the angst of Muslim fanatics around the world.
Otherwise they should make a big bonfire of their fxxxing Bibles. If they were so terrified by they prospect of facing death every day, they would not by overtly provoking millitant Islamic fanatics to suicide bomb them.

That is not likely to be the reaction of most Muslim's that I know. Being religious people themselves they would clearly understand these soldiers wanting to pray before going into battle, in fact I don't think they would understand people not praying before battle.
Christianity doesn't annoy them, but atheism does.

What a solpsistic and ignorant thing to say. Step out-side your narrow world-view for one minute, please. We (at this board) may think religion is silly, but some soldiers find comfort in thier deeply held religious beliefs, we should do everything to accommodate our soldiers while they face death.

I daresay most armed forces include chaplains who minister to the religious needs of other military personnel, and provision is made for religious observances of various denominations (including Islam) – even in the field. I can’t imagine this should come as a shock to anyone, friend or foe. It’s been a feature of military life and military operations for as long as people have been waging war.

Yes, I clicked on the link. That's why I said "you got me".
And the use of the proper word in the proper place makes me unbelievably extatic.

Yes I know and it often struck me as odd. I think it is a means to keep a country together as he is paints a little be of a tolerent religious facade where there are such huge cultural differences together, but he has to do it with an iron fist. Kurd Sheites and Sunnis have a history of being really at each other's thoats
I think that will be a big challange for Bush after the war.
p.s I wonder if Dick Cheney would ever consider converting to Islam

The why don't we see those various denominations making provisions for other religious observances (including Islam) on CNN?
They may be to blame.

this sounds more reasonable.
Tariq Aziz is Christian.
And Hypocolius' perspective is helpful.
When the troops have completed theri tasks and come home discussions can be had on soldiers praying.

I doubt their prayers sound anything quite like this:
"[The Muslim brothers] in Palestine and Iraq are suffering from aggression by the forces of arrogance and hegemony, which are dreaming of ruling the world, taking control of its revenues, and imposing their ambitions on the world . . . O God, help our mujahidin brothers in Palestine and Iraq score victory over their enemies. O God, destroy the unjust sons of Zion and the arrogant Americans. O God, shake the ground under them, instill panic into their hearts, and disperse them. O God, destroy them, for they are within your power."

Ah, the voice of freedom has spoken. Are you being confrontational, or are you really this phenomenally stupid? What's going to irk Islamic extremists more (never mind they hate our guts already, yours included):
1. Invading an Islamic country and booting the poster child of Islamic ambition and resistance to the west, or
2. They had a church service while doing it?
Otherwise they should make a big bonfire of their fxxxing Bibles. If they were so terrified by they prospect of facing death every day, they would not by overtly provoking millitant Islamic fanatics to suicide bomb them.
Burn the books. Nice answer, Herr Goering. We're there to open up a few freedoms, and the first thing we should do is burn books. That's absolute genius.
I can't even go on picking this unpolished turd of a point of yours. Move on and pretend it never happened, CD.

Tariq Aziz is Christian, but he did condone and even encourage the acts of suicide bombers to attack Allied troops. So endorsment suicide bombing is not just confined to Islam.
