Thousands of marines have been given a pamphlet called "A Christian's Duty," a mini prayer book which includes a tear-out section to be mailed to the White House pledging the soldier who sends it in has been praying for Bush.
Personally, if I was a soldier, even a religious one, I'd be pissed.

Sounds like unsolicitated spam to me, hardly a government action.

I remember on 9/11, when America was under attack and thousands of Americans were killed. Dubya got on the TV as soon as the Secret Service let him to assure all of us that he was OK.

Oh, please.
A plane targetting the Pentagon was not a serious threat to our government and it's head the president?

You're right Denise, Gee Dubyah needed to consult his copy of Revelation before deciding what to do.

So are you saying that there was no threat to the president? Is he as born again as Jimmy Carter, or less?

The difference between the two nicely illustrates the dichotomy between shut-up-and-do-it Christians and see-how-pious-I-am Christians.
Bush likes to TALK about his religion and ram it down people's throats; Carter quietly does good works, like building houses for the poor.
Just my perception.

You know, I bet that most of the marines who get that booklet are "praying for bush".
The male ones, anyway ...

I always thought that is was better to show where you stand up from. I have talked to black people that come from the south say that the north is worse because, not only is there as much racism, but it's hidden. In the south they knew who their enemies were. Here, there enemies hide behind smiles and invites to dinner.

Yes, I'm sure those Marines will have time to fill out the card and send it in, so they can get more spam mail from In Touch.

It's a bit inappropriate for the military (read government) to pass out pamphlets (regardless of their origin) that support a particular religious viewpoint or practice. There is this little thing called the separation of church and state.

Where does it say in the article that the military passed it out? I just saw that they were given the pamphlet, doesn't say who gave it to them.

But hte government said everytime: God bless America.
If they want to be bless...at least they must pray for your W. God.

THey're in the middle of a war in Iraq, it would be hard for the ministry that printed these things to pass them out there.
I have to admit the I did not read the article in the posted link at the start. I heard about this from another forum I am part of that deals specifically with atheism and military personell.

I think it's wonderful for our commander in chief to raise up the souls of our troops with joyous yet somber words of praise and worship. Give Him Glory!
My coven will be having a trasendant convergence this weekend so that we can psychically manipulate the chakras of the troops. We'd also burn some black candles for the Iraqi's, but we're afraid of aggrivating the Three Fold Law. Therefore we'll send positive images of love and light to the Iraqi soldiers to get them to beat their swords into plowshares.
Blessed Be

I'm still not aware that their commanders specifically passed out the pamphlets. If that's the case, I share the outrage.

How did you come up with the term Dubya?

It's our "President's" frat-boy nickname. From George Walker (NOT "Herbert Walker"; that's his dad) Bush.

Does anyone know whether all US armed forces chaplains are Christian? It's something I hadn't considered until I read the OP, but now I'm curious about whether other faiths are ministered to in the US armed forces.

I hope you know that makes no sense whatsoever. Certainly individuals might experience anything in the specific case. But open racism cannot possibly compare to bias that the individual can't bring out into the open.
Besides, there is a big difference between the two men: Jimmy Carter is an ex-president, and Bush is soon to be one.
