Ridiculous question, it's the bane of my surfing life. I cannot rid myself of that Macromedia Flash. It's insidious player is driving me mad!

Is there anyway I can get rid of Flash in the web pages I see? The sound, the incessant movement, the impossibility of getting rid of it. It's too much I tell you!

Possibly.

I know that there are several programs out there that block flash banner ads.

Also, there is a plugin for Mozilla that will stop advertisements alltogether for the most part.

I'll see if I can pull up some links for the programs.

:makes mental note to check back:

I'm sick of those fn things like I can't even explain. In the "old days" you could stop ads that had flickering motion by simply hitting the "stop" button in IEl, which still works on occasion, but increasingly less...

I can recommed this program for removing unwanted Web content:

http://www.intermute.com/products/adsubtract.html

(free trial download, $29.95 to buy)

It gets rid of adverts, pop-ups, animations, background images, background music, auto-refresh and lots of other stuff.

I don't work for them - just a satisfied customer!

Cheers, Bfef.

If you're using Firefox, then you might try the flashblock (http://flashblock.mozdev.org/) extension. It leaves a "placeholder" on the page; and you can click to view the flash if and when it suits you.

If you're browsing with Firefox, start using the adblock extension (http://adblock.mozdev.org last time I looked) and add a filter of *.swf

Easy money.

Funny, I was having problems getting macromedia flash to work. The solution was to uninstall then reinstall macromedia flash. Macromedia provides an uninstall program which might be what you are looking for.
