Because of the enormous resentment of the United States government in the Islamic world, documented in numerous opinion polls, we will have to look to nongovernmental organizations and other nations to lead the battle of ideas. A hands-off approach by the US would be an excellent idea in the short-to-medium term. Sadly that seems to run counter to current thinking in the White House.

Clarke is the authority after all. Terrorism was nearly nipped in the bud while he was in charge.

What kind of stupid remark is that? I suppose every surgeon general in history sucked because we still have disease.
You fail to include in your sarcasm the criticism due to those others in the administration who were recalcitrant to heed his advice, those who certainly did more harm than he in allowing 9/11.
