What are the inheritances as far as hardware registry keys when you migrate from 98 to XP?
Does XP just copy the 98 reg or does it do it's own hardware (plug and prey, etc.) evaluation and create a new reg from the ground up?

XP is going to have to completely redetect and reinstall hardware. For most, if not all devices, different device drivers are required.

If its the actual process that an upgrade from 98 to XP and how it affects the registry I'm not sure. I personally would do a clean install anyway, if that's at all feasible.
