Only use this on your home pc!
And, for the truly paranoid, only if you are the only user.
There are pivacy concerns

Oh yes I know that. I lock the screen when I don't use my pc. You know my three cats can be really evil :)
But for a home user like me whose hard disk is more untidy than her desk is a big help.

If you have privacy concerns (as more people should) I'd suggest using something like Copernic desktop search. It's been around for a while, since well before the Google one came out.
The Google one was a really big story a couple of months back (I think), then Yahoo and MSN brought out rivals, none of which were much good in anyone's opinion.
The privacy issues are less to do with shared PC access than Google's intention of incorporating local and Internet searches into the same bundle, so a normal google search would also list hits from your hard disks. It's not really an issue, but it *could be* if third parties latch onto it or Google change their privacy policies - which are already a decidedly uncomfortable fit.

If you have a lot of images, you might like Picasa (http://www.picasa.com/index.php?tid=Y2NpZD0zNjcy).
I find it better than similar software I have paid for. It also lets you preview and play your movies. It's great if you have a digital camera that also takes movies.

if you have a text feature on your cellphone, and who doesn't now. You can text a message to GOOGLE (or 466453) and do a google search on it. I use it instead of calling 411 all the time and it's free*. Works best to do something like "Pizza 30303" to get a text messagewith the numbers of all the pizza places in zip code 30303
extremely handy

*google doesn't charge but your phone provider may charge you for text messaging, check your plan

Just a quick reminder about the international element to the WWW: nobody, anywhere in the world except North America can do this. "The USA" is currently only a subset of "the world" :)
