Another thing that I have always wondered about Noni juice. It cures so many ills you would think anyone who sells it would be insanely well off. If for instance it just lowered cholesteral, nothing else just that, there would be a huge market for it in my area where there are many seniors. Since these folks get tested regularly the results should be obvious and word of mouth alone should make the local distributor very well off indeed.

So how come the local Noni juice distributor is also the guy that delivers pizza to my house?

My mom was given a bottle of Noni juice by a member of her church to cure her type 2 diabetes. I talked her out of drinking it. She was also told it would help with my dad's prostate cancer.

These sCAM artists really get me angry.

I Googled Noni Juice and found it is the juice of the Noni fruit from Tahiti. Then I checked it on Med-Line and found 10 citations as follows, a few of which feel it contributes to immune responses against cancer, a few which question whether it causes hyperkalemia (too much potassium) which is decidedly dangerous and one of which says the maker has agreed to cease making unproven claims for it.

The presence of the antioxidant polyphenols, found in pomegrante juice, blueberry juice, chocolate (flavenols actually) and even in red wine, has also been touted as a benefit to the circulation and cholesterol laden blood vessels. I have tried the pomegrante juice and like it -- it tastes pretty good but I grant it is not cheap outside of California where it is produced but then again neither is a decent red wine. In NYC 1.4 L of pom juice costs $11.00 which compares similarly with a cheap red wine but is probably safer for you than drinking the alcohol on a regular basis.

The problem with these fads is that it is early in the game for them and we don't know if "over-doing" them could be harmful or not. I am glad to see a few researchers starting to look into them, if even anecdotally at first although there are some animal studies among the above.
