Regardless of what one thinks of this issue there is simply no justification in my mind for this unprecedented action.
This is not the purpose of the senate. Republicans complain of activist judges, well what is this but an activist congress.
A "witness"? Are you out of your f***ing mind?
I'm really torn on the issue. I'm pro euthanasia but against formally sponsoring or changing our current laws.
Congress to Call Schiavo as Witness (http://reuters.myway.com/article/20050318/2005-03-18T180813Z_01_N18220917_RTRIDST_0_NEWS-RIGHTS-SCHIAVO-CONGRESS-DC.html)

It's kind of moot. It was just political postering IMO. The judge in the case already told congress to pack sand. But you're right, they had no business making such a mockery of the system.

I can also see this as an escalation for future events, congrees "requiring" testimony of those to be excecuted, etc.

But again, they would have to show cause. They'd have to get the ordering judge (in the case of someone about to be convicted that would be one of the surpremes). They didn't show cause in this case and the judge told them what they could do with their order. Feeding tube is removed.

I second Rob. With all the issues facing the world and this nation for Congress to take this up is beyond outrageous.
