From Randi's March 18th, 2005 commentary:
I stand corrected, and I must add that I had a beautiful all-black cat, Alice, who was female — except for a tiny white spot.I hesitate to think what was located on the tiny "male" spot. :D

Say, I've been meaning to ask: what's with the mandolin in your avatar? Do you play?
Or, is it even a mando? The body looks a bit elongated.

I'm not sure. It may be a lute. It's a picture of a young David Niven I found and resized for avatar purposes for no other reason than I find it deliciously silly.

It appears to be an Italian-style or Spanish mandolin of the pear-shaped sort that was popular about 100 years ago. Lutes are still made in that shape, but they're typically quite a bit larger. Flat-back mandolins have been around for about 60 years.
