As long as it's in the Commentary this week, I'm taking the opportunity to post a thread titled correctly this time (vs. my totally getting it wrong in the other one).
Here's a line from the Commentary ---
Since these varieties of life are not mentioned in the Bible, and certainly could not have been taken aboard The Ark, fundamentalists must deny that they exist, and ignore any evidence presented.
Even I would admit that, even if Noah could have magically taken all other creatures aboard the Ark, he would not necessarily have had to take sea-based creatures, so this is not really a good point for refuting fundies.

(Grr, I still messed up the thread title!!!) Mea culpa, as Randi would say...

More recent news suggests the IMAX theaters have rethought their position, and will show the films in question.

Wonderful news, hopefully soon to be available here in Sweden too.
Not a very religious social climat against evolution or science here so I doubt it will be as a controversial matter as it seems to be in the states.

The Wednesday Ft. Worth Star Telegram had a 10-1 put down of the IMAX here.
Today, the IMAX bunch responded. They will show the movie befor Summer, and people will be disapointed, as it is not of the quality/excitement value of most others. They also said that the didn't base their refusal of it on the "blasphemy" aspects, but on marketability (?)
Yeah, Right.
Interestingly, many of the blasts at the museum were from clergy, albeit mostly non-Baptist. Many used Bible quotes to show the falicy of the blasphemy argument, including the 4-cornered, flat Earth stuff.
Great for giggles

I think I must be missing something. I have not heard anyone protest these movies nor have they been banned in any way. They are not being shown because theater managers fear what might happen.
No point in blaming that on anyone but the theater managers.
Then again they openly state that they are fearfull they will not be able to sell enough tickets to cover costs. So the real problem is not religion but capatalism.
Once me and all the other workers revolt we will put this right.

imax tends to bundle a bunch of short movies and show them together. Their concern might be that some people would boycott the entire set just because of the one movie they objected to.
I think the IMAX owners are just being weenies.
I know lots of fundies and they are not so weak in their faith that they can't stand up to alternate ideas. Why, they should be insulted and demand to see it! :D

Good morning.
I often go to the Liberty Science Center (http://www.lsc.org) . They have a wonderfull dome IMAX and I have seen plenty of IMAX films. I have seen this movie Volcanoes. I loved it. It was a very good documentry on the types of life that exist in some very harsh environments. I had two kids with me, 12 and 9, and both sat quietly through it and asked good questions afterwards.
For those who have not been to an IMAX dome, it's important to know what it is like. The screen wraps around you so that it fills your entire view. Sounds cool. It is. When the image on the screen pans in a direction, you feel like you are moving. It can be very disturbing. Suddenly the screen shows something falling off a cliff and you feel that motion. The uncomfortable feeling in your stomach tells you that you are falling. However, if you close your eyes, that feeling instantly goes away. That is the effect that makes IMAX domes really cool.
Volcanoes of the Deep really didn't exploit this effect much. Don't get me wrong this was one of my favorite IMAX films. The content was great and it looked beautiful.
It may be so that some places decided not to show it because of the evolution reasons, but without knowing the body of films that they do show and reject, it would be unfair to state that they are bending to the religious boycotters.
