On June 13, 2001 (prior to my arrival here) the JREF received a paranormal claim from a Ms. Kathryn Kirchen, as follows:

==========================================

I can put my consciousness in a persons body and identify any medical conditions that the person has. I can do this with 100% accuracy.

It is possible that I may miss one or some of the conditions if the person has many different conditions. I do not need to be with the person and as a matter of fact it is best if I do not see the person. They can be present, but behind a curtain however.

-Kathryn Kirchen

===========================================

This was one of the many claim letters I encountered upon my arrival. Despite the fact that it was sent 3 years prior, I wrote back asking for details regarding how she proposed to demonstrate her claim, and received this in response within a few days:

Dear Mr. Kramer,

I hope that you are serious about your search for proof of psychic ability. I don't know very much about your organization.
I will need to know a bit more about you before a plan my trip.

The million dollar reward is not so important to me as what occurs when we meet. It is my lifetime goal to bring the mystical world into the scientific world. I truly believe they are not seperate, but the same thing. I would like to have a place to demonstrate this.

p.s. I have changed my name to ALANA KAY.

-ALANA KAY

=============================================

I wrote back as follows:

Dear Ms. Kay,

It is a pleasure to hear back from you so very soon.

If indeed you have legally changed your name, you will now need to submit a new Challenge application with your true legal name as it now stands, in order to be considered for the prize. That must be done before we can proceed.

And we are dead serious about all of our activities. Please go to our website to see for yourself (www.randi.org).

-Kramer, JREF

=============================================

Today, March 29, 2005, over 9 months after the previous correspondence, I received the following email from the alleged Ms. Kay:

Where should I send my new paperwork? I am guessing that it will take three years to get to you if I send it to the main address.

-ALANA KAY

============================================

I responded thusly:

I guess it WOULD take 3 years to get to us, if you're sending it from Mars. So keep guessing.

The last email I received from you was on April 12, 2004, two weeks short of a year. I responded on the very same day. The only response I received from you was a deafening silence that lasted an entire year.

Follow the Challenge rules. You know perfectly well where to send your application. If you can't read the Challenge rules, get someone to help you. We have no intention of spoonfeeding you all the details, which are in B&W for all to see (at our website; www.randi.org).

You want to be tested? Stop playing games. And stop changing your name, too. It won't change who you are. It also will NOT expedite the application process.

-Kramer, JREF Paranormal Claims Dept.

p.s. Contrary to your incorrect assumption, the JREF is absolutely NOT "serious about the search for proof of psychic ability", as you suggested in your sole letter of 2004. We ARE serious, however, about establishing the TRUTH, and deciphering fact from fiction. Please try to understand that.

This just in from ALANA KAY:

Goofenheimer:

Thank you for firmly establishing your position.

Have a nice life. I hope you find "reality" some day.

And that's the end of THAT.
