The "Million Dollar Challenge" forum is here. (http://forums.randi.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=16)
Although if I were a betting man I might back you on this one.

Catholic.
(Next, see my predictions about bears.)
Old saying: He who enters the conclave as a Pope, leaves it as a Cardinal. I predict something similar this time. None of the favorites.

From Latin America. Conservative, views will not differ from JPII.

European, but not Eastern European. They want to pick an Italian, but won't because it will seem like they're going Italo-centric again. They'll compromise by picking someone from Western Europe. They won't pick a young guy because they thought JP2 had too long a reign. He'll be at least seventy. Maybe a Frenchman, or a German. English a long shot. Definitely not Irish. Quiet, stick-at-home, reflective type, who'll make a few firm but noncontroversial pronouncements over the years, and not travel so much.

Old.
The cardinals will not want to risk new papacy as long as the last.

And since the Cardinals' election process is to find out the will of God.....
And, in effect, God himself is chosing the Pope...
Why don't we get white smoke on the first ballot?

He takes a long time to get through?

No, TM. The Pope is clearly Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine. Check out his picture on Yahoo!

Ratzinger. The head of the inquisition, i.e. "Doctrinal Defense" department.

Indeed you do, I will send a separate message to JR - you did remember to fill in the form didn't you?
My guess of Latin America was way off but I was right about conservative - I mean who would have predicted that?

I Win!
Was it four rounds?
Time stamped prediction:
Ratzinger in four rounds.
Someone with a name like that, they'll think its an act of charity letting him change his name to Pope Humble the III or something.

He was chosen on the third round of votes by the 115 cardinals meeting to select Pope John Paul II's successor.
Ok, that's within four rounds. What I meant.
HOO YAH HOO YAH
WHO'S THE PSYCHIC IN THIS FAMILY???

yes yes thank you all veddy much no need to rise
Some credit for this prediction must go to Chocolate Chip, who before selecting his rather conservative yet disturbingly attractive Venus de milo as an avatar...
...had selected a rather pornographic animated gif
and no one expects the inquisition! So Ratszinger was the clear choice.

I am. I made no less than three predictions, all for Ratzinger.
No sissy namegame here, buddy. No interpretations needed.

LOL I only needed one try!
All in all an easy guess. I think any real change was a little wishful. My genuine condolences to the many progressive Catholics who are gradually finding themselves homeless.
