David Bloom, one of the few reporters on MSNBC that I liked, has died in Iraq.

Godspeed. America lost a good non-leftist reporter today.

So many reporters are dying in this conflict. What a sad thing.

I just heard on MSNBC, he died of a pulmonary embollism & leaves behind 3 daughters. Still very sad though.

Obviously David Bloom wasn't a good christian or God would have spared his life like he spared Ron Martz's.

Too bad there weren't any soldiers around him to take the bullets. If only he were more devout.

Let this be a lesson to us all, if you don't pray every day then you are asking for it.

Who's to say we are not better off dead and on the other side?

But isn't praying every day also asking for it, pretty much by definition?

Jon I think you missed out a word in the above and that was "our" - it appears that once again that "our" deaths are much more important then any of "theirs".

Jon, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but I'd like to say that it IS horrible that people get killed in war or under brutal regimes.

The lose of life is not something civilized people should jovially "celebrate".... even if it's your enemy.

It's funny how quickly a thread about a semi-celebrity dying - someone we have an odd kind of tenuous relationship with - devolves into self-righteous tut-tutting. Sad.

Well, now I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic when you said you weren't being sarcastic before.

I swear.... you Brits & your humor always goes right over my head! LOL

In any event, I've been a little sensitive on this issue lately because it sickens me to see some of our American newscasters report the deaths of our 'enemies' with a big smile plastered on their faces..... as if WAR is some kind of sporting event.

I think it's unprofessional and rather disgusting.

Mel, luckily so far I haven't noticed this or I too would be disgusted.

I am deeply saddened by David Bloom's death. I have been so used to seeing him every week-end on the morning news. He seemed like a wonderful person. When I first saw him reporting from Iraq I was surprised that they would have sent him to that area. He was married with small children, but now it seems as if that was where he wanted to be.

It seems like it was natural causes, but no matter, I still feel as if I have lost a friend.

I would laugh at this if it wasn't so bizarre. God put some soldiers to sit next to him to take the bullets that would have got him instead. As they say, god works in mysterious ways.....

Of course, I am saddened by any loss of life, Jedi. But your post makes it look like it is okay to lose leftist reporters. Please tell me this is not what you meant.

Bizarre indeed. Presumptuous Christian...If anything, it would be more likely that God put [i]him/i] there to help care for the soldiers who got shot. He couldn't simply report the event...had to throw this in:

So I talked to them. I told them they were getting out of this nasty little war that some experts had said would last five days and would be quick and easy.

Just report the news, guys. Spare us the commentary.

CONSPIRACY!!!! David bloom knew too much! He was like "hey, why are we carrying these cans of anthrax?" After that the government decided his attitude needed a "regime change".

FIGHT THE POWER!

If we can cut through the ********* for a moment....

Bloom died doing what he believed he ought to be doing. He was a reporter first, and he died reporting from the battlefield. That ought to count for something. Frankly, I thought it took some serious courage to even show up.

As to the Atlanta reporter: ever stop to think... and forget to start again? Crass, tactless, and rude.

JK, there's a reason I have you on ignore. You've confirmed my decision is the right one. Get it through your head, dumbass: THERE ARE STUPID REPORTERS, THERE ARE LEFTIST REPORTERS, THERE ARE RIGHTIST REPORTERS, AND THERE ARE GOOD REPORTERS! None of them deserves to die. Take a few courses in Journalism and start writing if you don't like what you see, but enough with the "red baiting!" Geez! Check a calender once in a while!

Well moron, if you have me on ignore, then why did you read my post?

I will tell you why--you worship me. It is true. You run your chops and say "I have you on ignore, Jedi", but then in the next sentence you talk about what I debate, quoting my posts.

So who is really the dumbass? Hint: not Jedi.

JK

I had to actually open your post to read it, JK. Keep in mind, when someone is on ignore, if someone else quotes from the ignored individual, the quoted section appears in the post. That's what I read. (Skim back through the thread. You can see where you've been quoted.)

I'll repeat my earlier statement: Check a damn calender once in a while. The "Red Empire" has either fallen, or continues to fall in various nations.

And by the way: Not everyone who disagrees with you is (1.) an idiot, (2.) hateful, or (3.) anti-American. Think about it for a bit. You're clearly capable of it, so why not give it a shot.

In the meantime, I have other things to do with my time.

And as to Bloom: I repeat that it's a tragedy. Preventable? That's what they were saying on ABC Radio this morning. But it doesn't surprise me: This was probably the opportunity of a lifetime for the man, and there was no way he's pass it up. I know the type, and I've got tremendous respect for them.
