Yet to be confirmed, and I guess only the next few days will tell- but it seems like 7th Armoured has entered Basra en force and there seems to be no resistance. Iraqi troops have just ditched thier uniform and quit.

Basra is ours. The war is half won.

This war is far from over. Until the Iraqis are shown PROOF that Saddam & his regime is dead or captured, there will be reluctance to cooperate with the coalition forces.

I also feel the BIGGER problem will be preventing total chaos taking over the country after the fighting is finished.

Iran, Syria & Lebanon (to name three) are waiting in the wings...... drooling...... waiting for the INFIDELS to go home.

Apparently tanks have been caught in the rush hour.

Post-war problems. I also fear that once the regular war is over, a guerilla war could ensue- look at what happened in South Africa 1899-1903.

Rush hour! LOL

Forget South Africa..... look at what's going on in Afghanistan.

I hope we're going to give it back when we've finished with it! :)

Me too. Empires come with long bills.

The UK troops have been just spectacular, and I think have been somewhat more empathetic with the locals. Impressive.

All bow down and hail!!!
[Except us 'mericans for obvious reasons... :D ]

1. God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!

2. O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

3. Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!

The British have only started to move into Basra, they have not taken it; according to this lastest report from the CBC:

British troops move into Basra (http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2003/04/06/basra_030406)

To be honest, I thought that the Brits would just be sending in a few token soldiers. I was very surprised by the forces they sent into Iraq. Just goes to show the relationship between the US and the UK shows no sign of withering on the vine. It's kind of funny that we have such a close relationship considering the birth of the USA.

By the way, it looks like the Brits are kicking some serious A$$ over there.
