Is this a new style of diplomacy?

"And in other news, President Bush has reconsidered his stance on gay marriage." :D

Seriously--in the middle east having male friends walk hand-in-hand like that isn't unusual at all. Here, George is simply showing deep friendship with the head of one of the most powerful Islamic theocracies on the planet.

I didn't realize Bush went for Catholic girls. But as the line in the Zappa song (Catholic Girls), "with your tiny little moustache", this is being taken to an extreme.

He's gotta be glad that french kissing isn't a protocol.

I thought it was cute. First he gestured in a butler-esque manner, "This way inside!" to the guy. Then you could see him remembering "Oh yeah, these guys like to be led by the hand." and gritting his teeth, he does it, and walks along trying not to look awkward. I think it's charming of him to bow to the customs of the people he's asking favors from.

A while back when Clinton was in the Middle East talking to Assad of Syria and the other guy from Israel, I forget his name, they showed a moment of the talks when all three are sitting around. Clinton crosses his legs and points the sole of his foot toward the Israeli, and Assad suppresses a smile. Apparently that's a rudeness in his culture, but not in theirs. Good thing Clinton didn't point the wrong way!

International relations are paved with pitfalls of the weirdest kind. Apparently throwing up on the prime minister of Japan is considered undesirable. Who knew?

A friend pointed out, that you have to admit that it must be very freeing to be able to wear a sundress and be rabidly homophobic at the same time.
