Prevent me from visitng sites in Firefox.

Anyone know how I can ban myself from going to slashdot.org and time draining sites? Not this on obviously! (I'm using linux)

edit your /etc/hosts as root.

append to it.

127.0.0.1 slashdot.org
127.0.0.1 randi.org

etc...

127.0.0.1 is your local host. As you are probbaly not running an http server you will get connection refused.

Who are you really trying to ban from going where?

Then get someone to change your root password so the temptation to revert the file is put out of your reach. ;)

I'm not root - It's at uni. I have my own linux box and as I sit at my desk all day the tempetation is too great... I've a deadline soon and really need to get working.

I thought there might be a plugin or something? but haven't managed to find one.

I'm doing a degree - my box is part of a network. It's on my desk so It's "mine" but I'm not root.

I don't want to go downstairs and admit to the system adminstrator that I can't cope with having "always on" internet. As he's also one of my supervisors.

I've been recommended to add "*.slashdot.org/*" to adblock but that doesn't seem to have worked.
