View Full Version : Pray for the Prez

This is almost too much to believe. A place called "In Touch Ministries" has been sending pamphlets which try to get soldiers to commit themselve to praying every day for President Bush. Oh, not for him to stop killing people, but for him to overcome his enemies and ignore his detractors and such.
Here's the scoop (http://www.thenation.com/outrage/index.mhtml?bid=6&pid=531).
Now, according to "A Christian's Duty in Time of War" -- a pamphlet given out to thousands of Marines in Iraq -- our soldiers in the war zone are supposed to fill out a form pledging to pray every day for George Bush. The pamphlet has a tear-out section which the soldier is to sign and mail to the president: "I have committed to pray for you, your family, your staff ..." The pamphlets were created by In Touch Ministries, an evangelical group that says "We may not all be in the military, but we are all engaged in warfare ... spiritual warfare."
I've engaged in arguments with Christians as to whether, according to the principles of Christ, they can take part in any war.
It's stunning how many are willing to embrace the 'Prince of Peace' with one arm whilst wrapping the other around warmongers.
The way I read the NT, Jesus said very flatly that you must turn the other cheek, and 'whatsoever you do, you do so in my name' (paraphrasing, too lazy to look up the passage).

As I recall, he also said that there is an eleventh commandment - to love your neighbor - and that this would be equal to or above the other 10 biggies.
By the way, didn't soldiers in Nazi Germany pledge an oath directly to Hitler? (i.e. not their country but to him personally)

Good work Tricky!
You are H*lla Cool!
Does anyone remember how some months ago George W. asked people to pray for a 'Divine Shield of Protection' and the next day he badly choked on a pretzel?
Ugh!
Anyway, good Christians have never lacked for a Biblical quote to justify their actions. The recent Catholic Church constantly speaks against war, but they seldom sanction any war in particular. Go figure!

My guess is if the paper of those pamphlets is soft enough, it gets used to wipe more than it is read by those marines.

Yes, they did. They also had their own weirdo little "Religion of the blood". Which goes to show again - if you want little unthinking robots to serve you, cook up some mystery...

Why not you join and find out? You'd be a better army fighter than I ever would have been, I'm sure. (can you see more than 10 feet without glasses? if so, you would be)
Or, maybe is it that they won't take yOU?

The Knight's been there. I'm much too old - by at least 16 years if I recall the eligibility requirements.

Wait a minute I posted this three weeks ago, and everybody's reaction was, "Well, the President didn't print them, it was someone else's idea, must be unsolicited spam."
What made everyone change their tune so fast?

Sorry Andonyx. My excuse was that I was on vacation when you started that thread about 10 days ago.
Still, a catchy headline always lures in the suckers...;)
