All this talk about people getting fired for smoking reminded me of this place:

George Fox University (http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/hr/)
Click here to read our Statement Of Faith (http://www.georgefox.edu/about/beliefs/faith.html) and/or our Statement of Community Responsibilities (http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/hr/community_responsibilities.html) by which all of our employees agree to abide.
This is a small private university that could fire you for all sorts of things you do on your own time, including using tobacco. They have been doing it for years. I know someone who used to work there that had to be sneaky about buying a six pack of beer for the weakend.

I don't want this to become a rehash of the "You Smoke? You're fired" thread. I am curious if any of you think this much more extreme real world example is any different.

On a side note, this is what they expect from their students:
Handbook (http://www.georgefox.edu/offices/student_life/handbook/ca.html#rf)
One could be expelled for having a playboy magazine.

I'm very skeptical about this, since Quakers typically have no testimony against tobacco or alcohol use.

Would you please provide links to the case of the employee being fired for that, so we can discuss it properly, instead of in the abstract?

ETA: I see where they say that in their brochure, I'd just like some details on how they presented the termination, since they admit it isn't a Scriptural prohibition, and AFAIK, it isn't a Quaker policy either.

If it is private and accepts no government $ I think that it is fine.

edit to add: having read the handbook, it appears to me that tittie bars are ok. They can't be all bad.

Very interesting ... Thanks for providing links so I could find out about these folks.

Apparently, this is one of the conservative Quaker groups who use the name, but don't follow the practices that many people associate with Quakerism.

I didn't know that they were using George Fox's name for their exclusionism.

Anyway, sorry for the sidetrack...
