Well, well! It appears that over at the NCH have received 20 thousand (20,000) applications for homeopathy certificate renewal, at 500 rupees each. That's...let's see (clickety-click) ...ten million rupees alone this year! just for sending out pieces of paper. Not to mention the students' fees for their courses, plus probably government "assistance" as well.

Rs10,000,000 (is that 100 lakh?) is certainly not to be sneezed at in anyone's currency. I wonder where it all goes... Into product research? :D :D

I've always maintained that apart from a few homeopathy "romantics" the rest of them don't really believe any of this bs; they are in it just for the money.

That's an interesting hypothesis, El. How could we test it?

In any case, they only want very , very small amounts of money.

On the one hand they do seem so sincere. But on the other hand the whole thing is just completely insane, and they have the scientific education to be able to realise that.

I asked a friend, who happens to know one of the most prominent veterinary homoeopaths, what she thought. She's a "see no evil, hear no evil, think no evil" sort of person. But she just put out her hand and made little scratching motions on the palm.

But then what about those who offer homoeopathy within the NHS? They don't get paid any more for it as far as I know. But how can anyone with even two more neurones than Kumar possibly believe any of it for ten seconds?

Rolfe. They know placebos work When all else fails give them a placbo. You could have as high as a 10 or 20% chance of it helping, but you can't let them know that it's a placebo, and you can't let anyone else know that you know it's a placebo.

It's possible that they don't believe it, but know that some of their patients will never be satisfied unless they get their little packet of pills. When those type of patients present with something that doesn't really have a treatment (a cold, say), telling them "There's nothing I can do" equals an unhappy patient. And in these days when you can transfer between GPs at the drop of a hat, nobody wants unhappy patients.

Perhaps it's something like that.

I suppose there's also the possibility that you might get a job in one of those fabulously luxurious and cushy NHS Homeopathic hospitals. Sit your patients in comfy surroundings and give them sugar pills, and if they take a turn for the worse you can shove them out into a proper hospital. Easy life.
