You may have seen this controversial video, where some evil people made a lion fight a tiger in a cage. It's disputed, but the tiger won. The video is probably down right now, though.

Anyway, this calls to mind the question of the fabled Liger. Could you actually mate a lion and a tiger? I say this because different types of horse can be mated, like a Zebra and a Donkey, creating Zebra-hybrid animals.

Could you do the same for giant cats? Or is their DNA not similar enough?

Okay, moving on. Plants. Everyone agrees that they're alive. But are they self-aware? They don't have brains, so how could they be?

To me, they seem more like organic machines. Consciousness isn't really a requirement to survive natural selection.

Ligers were bred 50 years ago. Tigons are rarer, but do exist.

Ligers, in fact, are the largest cats in the world. And breed true. Tigons, on the other hand, are sterile. Curious situation. Tigons are also often smaller than either parent.

Ligers are beautiful creatures, too. Truly spectacular species.

Yeah, I found that. Pretty cool.

I wonder if male Ligers would hunt?

Ligers are pretty much my favourite animal.

I also heard (although not personally confirmed) that Ligers are also sterile. And the reason why Ligers are so large is because they are missing the gene that restricts growth... something about the gene being on the male of one species and the female of the other species, and the Liger being the mating of the genders that don't have the gene...

Or somthing like that.... Anyways, the Liger is the biggest modern cat in existence....

Totally OT to this thread, but the title of this post:

Stupid questions. Seriously asked.

Is completely awesome and I so need to find a practical application for it. :) I smell a t-shirt or bumper sticker...

Well, surely I'm not the only one who has stupid questions to ask...
