Scientists say they have located the parts of the brain that comprehend sarcasm - honestly.
By comparing healthy people and those with damage to different parts of the brain, they found the front of the brain was a key to understanding irony.

Damage to any of three different areas could render individuals unable to understand sarcastic comments.

The Israeli team from Haifa University told Neuropsychology how their findings might help to explain autism features.
Yeah, right (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4566319.stm)

Hmmmm...
So the inability to 'get' sarcasm linked to closed head injuries? Same sort of closed head injuries linked to violence and aggression?

OK, make that a *20* foot pole.....

That's how the Danes survived the 3RD REICH?
"I must say, Fleglemeister Strumunddrang, your uniform looks so butch today."
Edited to add, Is that flattery or sarcasm.? I'm sure I don't know.

A touch of irony perhaps, but never sarcasm.

The inability to understand irony may make one more qualified for certain types of jobs.

Here is White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan criticizing Newseek for relying on a single, unreliable source when publishing a story.

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, it's what I talked about yesterday. This report, which Newsweek has now retracted and said was wrong, has had serious consequences. People did lose their lives. The image of the United States abroad has been damaged; there is lasting damage to our image because of this report. And we would encourage Newsweek to do all that they can to help repair the damage that has been done, particularly in the region.

[snip]

And I think it would help to point that out, because some have taken this report -- those that are opposed to the United States -- some have taken this report and exploited it and used it to incite violence.
