'Lightsaber duel': two critical
LONDON, England -- Two Star Wars fans are in critical condition after apparently trying to make "lightsabers" by filling fluorescent light tubes with petrol, British media reports say.
Mark Webb, 20, and an unnamed 17-year-old girl are believed to have been filming the mock duel as they poured fuel into two glass tubes and lit it.
The pair were taken to hospital after one of the devices exploded in woodland at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on Sunday evening.

I think we should settle this with a duel:
two morons with petrol in fluorescent tubes
VS.
all 42 (err... 14) members of the Cambodian Midget Fighting League!

Just when you thought you had seen and heard it all.
I am struck dumb in disbelief.

As well you should. Because it's a parody.

Nope. Not mentioned (http://www.darwinawards.com/). Can't be an "official" Darwin Award.
Anyway, at most they would rate an "honorable mention" since they didn't remove themselves from the gene pool.

Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/lionmidget.asp):
Claim: The BBC reported on a lion's mutilating 42 midgets in a Cambodian ring-fight.
Status: False.
Edit: Jimlintott was too quick for me.

Still unbeaten, then.
Can anyone top them? It has to be this year, of course.

Two Glendora teens riding in the trunk of a vehicle were killed Wednesday after the car hit two trees and they were ejected into the path of a van and struck by it .
....
The younger teens needed a ride. Ward said they got into the trunk because there was no room in the car.

The BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/4575291.stm) reported the lightsabre story too. As they didn't die (yet) they aren't qualified for a Darwin award (http://www.darwinawards.com/) but perhaps they deserve an honourable mention.

Everyone changing a fluorescent tube waves it around making light sabre noises. This is probably genetic.
But what brainstorm suggested filling it with petrol?

I think being Star Wars fans trying to make your own lighsabers pretty much removes them from the gene pool by default.
