I've seen a lot of news about Jesse Jackson promising to lead an envoy to Iraq, and missionaries talking about going there...
Who else thinks that idiotic Christian Missionaries will cause strife and increase anti-US sentiment in the Middle East. *raises hand*

Oh, great, just what the Muslims need, a bunch of self-righteous, presumptuous Christian pretenders to come running in order to take advantage of them. This can do nothing but foment more resentment and hatred.

"me too"
Seriously, Christians trying to convert Iraqis shows a complete lack of understanding and appreciation of their culture and history.
If the overarching purpose of this campaign is to free the Iraqis and allow them to setup their own government, then we are doing them a disservice by sending missionaries over there.
Oy, the ignorant among us sure make the U.S. look bad...

Ow, I think I pulled a muscle whilst raising my hand.
I'm looking forward to Eddie's (Shadowman) return. His last year in the military, he worked out of the embassy in Muscat Oman. Since then, he's hired on with a civilian contracter, and spend 4-6 months a year in the middle east. He really understands the culture. We gotta get him to post when he comes home.
If he was here, he'd probably say the missionaries are farting into the wind.
If anyone would like to discuss the culture over there with him in the meantime, pm me (unless you're a troll). He has some pretty cool stories.

My guess is missionaries will be mostly doing humanitarian work. Most missionary groups are pretty devious and will know that just passing out tracks isnt going to convert anyone.
If they showed up and did humanitarian work with light prostelitizing it could help encourage tolerance even though they dont have a snowballs chance in hell of making lots of converts.
