I met this fellow around 1980, Sandor Zoboki, while working on a technical problem with a floppy disk design. While working late we were making small talk and I mentioned I was a pilot. He said, with a slight smile, "what do you fly?" I indicated a Piper 140 and he nodded. So I asked, are you a pilot? "Yes." What do you fly? At which point he said "a MIG." I about fell of my chair. He claimed he flew it from Hungary to Italy. Landed in some park and hailed a cop on a bicycle.

At the time he was about to come out of a witness protection type program. Anyway, the closest thing I can find about his is this possible entry in an Hungarian archive. Can anyone translate it?

1970.04.07. Zoboki Sándor fÅ‘hadnagy egy MIG–15-ös vadászgéppel Olaszországba menekül. Szeptember 15-én távollétében halálra Ã_télik.

Recently, a Hungarian xpat translated the sentence. Basically he was a fighter pilot that flew the mig 15 to Italy. It notes he was sentenced to death later that year - probably the reason he was in some sort of protection program.
