Thanks to the efforts of a certain third party whom many maintain will never ever make a difference, the NC House has introduced H867, the Electoral Fairness Act, (http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2003&BillID=h867) which would reduce North Carolina's prohibitive ballot access requirements down to the national average. It has one sponsor and (amazingly) ten cosponsors.
Of course, there's a long way to go, during which it may have all effectiveness amended out of it, and it may not even pass, but it is encouraging to know that at least some politicians can be persuaded to do the right thing!
