From CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/17/peta.arrests.ap/index.html):

AHOSKIE, North Carolina (AP) -- Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have been charged with animal cruelty after dumping dead dogs and cats in a shopping center garbage bin, police said.

Investigators staked out the bin after discovering that dead animals had been dumped there every Wednesday for the past four weeks, Ahoskie police said in a prepared statement Thursday.

I love animals, and I hate PETA. For the animals, this is a tragedy. For PETA, I can only have one response:

I saw this on a cat forum I read. The people there are more outraged at the dead bodies being discarded in the dumpster than they are at the euthanasia. I don't get it. The dogs and cats don't care anymore. They're dead. I'm more annoyed that they are euthanizing animals while at the same time protesting people who euthanize animals. Can anyone say hypocrisy?

I couldn't understand that either. Why is PETA euthanizing animals at all? I think that requires more explanation than anything.

You should watch the B*llsh!t show on PETA. PETA euthanizes quite a few animals each year.

Yeah, I rewatched Bullsh!t this morning when I first read the story on the cat forum. According to them, in 2003 PETA euthanized almost two-thirds of the animals they took in.

PeTA are a bunch of nutters, and I think that they should lose their 'charity' status.

Numerous people at the animal shelter would have PeTA stickers and such on their lockers, and I would try to explain to them that PeTA thinks they're the scum of the earth, and would firebomb their cars (as they have in the past), given half a chance.

The really hypocritical thing about this, they are having to euthanize the animals for the same reason as the shelter. Too many animals, not enough room.

And they protest the shelters for doing so. $%^&ing hypocritical bastards.

Ensuring that more shelters close, PETA's own facilities become more overcrowded, and therefore take on an even LARGER proportion of kitten murder every year.

Wow, those guys must really hate animals.

BTW, Cleon, I certainly hope that laughing dog icon in your OP has not been subjected to any humiliation in order to put it into hysterics. I'd hate to have two dozen blood-throwers waiting for you by your car tomorrow morning.

Well, that's why the Good Lord gave us the Electric Cattle Prod.

Fine, just so long as you use it on people and never on animals.

What is the basis for the "cruelty charge"?

Why don't they care for the animals they "rescue"?

-Because that costs money, and they'd rather spend the money on protesting animal shelters.

There was another article that mentioned a "very adoptable" mumcat and kittens, but they didn't say if they were alive or dead (I think they were making the point that these were adoptable animals).

I'm guessing it has something to do with the animals not even making it to PeTA from the vet clinics.

Hey, I love animals, I could never use one on an animal...But hypocritical, sleazy, self-righteous, arrogant, lying, dishonest media whores like the PETA crowd? Oh, hell yeah.

Cleon, you should only have one word for PETA and it is this:

"EXTERMINATE!!"

These folks have shot themselves in the foot more than any group I know. I love animals too. I especially love chickens, cows and fish/shell fish. I sometimes love pheasant, rabbit, duck, and deer. I don't like rats though.

Peta smear campaign? Some people make me sick! I've always supported Peta, and I always will---with pride.

“PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals from North Carolina are euthanized,” Newkirk said.

OH! Sorry, I'm in a mean mood at the moment and the finesse of your reference escaped me. I should recognise one, after all, there's just so many of them out there.... ;)

You know I didn't even realize they did that. Yet another reason to hate PETA. More and more it seems that they're not even about the animals at all, they just want to be anarchists. 12 Monkeys and all that.

They're not even anarchists, they're just a cult. I've known anarchists who can discuss anarchism rationally; I have to meet a PETA supporter/member who can discuss their theology rationally.

PeTA is cracked out. The majority of their supporters either don't quite realize what they're about ("oh, animals...that's nice"), or are complete whackjobs who have a serious problem distinguishing fantasy from reality, and have to potential to be quite dangerous.

I fully support the move to have their charitable status removed, as they do support domestic terrorist groups such as ALF.
