My brother has been given a DVD drive for his birthday. I installed it for him, but it seems to be having problems playing some DVD's.

It plays The Matrix, but doesn't seem to play Apocalypse Now or Yes Minister.

The drive is an Asus DVD-E616P. My brother's video card is an ati radeon 7200. The software being used is power DVD 5, although I have tried power DVD 5 as that is what it came with.

I don't think it's a region problem. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Power DVD 5 has a 'system scan' function under options or utilities. If you haven't run that yet, give it a try. It can diagnose problems and offer configuration suggestions that might resolve the issue.

I use this to play all my DVDs - no problems after 18 months...

Having just re-read my OP for the first time, I realise that the first 5 in it should be a 6.

In the meantime, we've sent the drive back and are waiting for the replacement.
