View Full Version : Zone Alarm: CANNOT uninstall - POS!

Trying to uninstall so I can install the newest (God forbid they do anything logical like just give you a patch that just tweaks the version you already have).....and can't. I get this "couldn't install the True Vector Monitor software" BS. What in --- ----?? It says something else must be using that aspect of Zone Alarm, which is absurd, esp. when I shut down every other program (which I knew wasn't using it anyway).

Any clues from the experts appreciated. If nothing else maybe a good shareware program that uninstalls things that don't want to be uninstalled would be helpful.

Tried starting in safe mode and uninstalling there? Also, make sure you are logged on with administrator rights.

Can you get hold of the installer for the old version, reinstall it, then uninstall it?

Installing the new version over the old version might work just as well, though I don't know ZoneAlarm's quirks.

AFAIK, Zone Alarm expects you to upgrade and not uninstall first. I've gone through several revisions for years and, apart from a bit of odd wording, not had any issues.

Great replies, esp. that last one. :) Never occurred to me that a single product (ie beyond stuff like Windows) would have its own forum.....thx!

Update FWIW: they recommended running "msconfig" and starting in...well not sure if it's considered 'safe mode' or not, but similar, ie don't run win.ini, etc. Uninstalled like a champ after that.

It is extremely weak that this was necessary though.
