At this point, we have all seen the images of Saddam's statue being pulled down. It is being presented as a sign of the massive hatred that the people of Iraq had for Saddam, and a sign of the popular uprising against his regime. I have seen the number of Iraqis who were present listed as high as 10,000. All of them cheering for the overthrow of their dictator.

Then again... (http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2842.htm)

If this site is to be believed (and I see no reason to doubt it), this "historic moment" consisted of a marine detachment, a sealed off public square, a pliant media, and at most two hundred "ringers" brought in to cheer.

It's c**p like this that makes people disbelieve the moon landing...

Here's what I find funny...

The 'title' of the web page says that it has the news that CNN won't print.

Now, its been revealed that CNN was suppressing news critical of Saddam (for example, the arrest and torture of CNN staff) because they feared reprisals from the Iraqi government.

I watched this live, the view was a locked off camera from a nearby building. I watched it from the initial small group of stone throwers right up to the statue being pulled down. To me it was a group release of tensions, hatreds etc.... I have seen footage of very many similar events during wars, revolutions and coups. There was not 10,000 there.... maybe 2000 at the most. Possibly 2500 if you included the journalists and camera crews..... 30 or 40 marines could crowd control them back to a safe distance when they pulled it down....A soccer game would have pulled a bigger crowd.

It was a classic piece of live television, but a bit of a tinpot event to compare to the tearing down of the berlin wall as some have attempted to do.

The occupation has begun? Why are some of the kook and arab web sites so obsessed with occupation?

The reality is, we can drain the major oil field from the Kuwait side. Aside from the river areas, Iraq is a wasteland.

One last time "WE DONT WANT IRAQ"

My guess is the occupation talk is wishful thinking. My guess is a US base will be established in Iraq and then the occupation meme-mongers will use it as proof to A. stir up anti-US sentiment in the mideast or B. support their kook theories.
