Soldiers Expel Jewish Militants From Gaza

By GAVIN RABINOWITZ

PALM BEACH HOTEL, Gaza Strip (AP) -- Israeli forces stormed a Gaza Strip hotel Thursday where dozens of Jewish squatters were holed up to disrupt this summer's Israeli withdrawal, in a quick operation that could serve as a blueprint for the pullout itself.

Struggling and shouting as soldiers lifted them from the floor of the hotel dining room and carried them outside, the squatters quickly surrendered to the overwhelming numbers of security forces.

"You're expelling Jews like the Germans, like the Russians," West Bank settler Nadia Matar shouted at the soldiers, who ignored her as TV cameras rolled."

"Young ultranationalists, some lying in front of bulldozers, some climbing on top of them, tried to halt the demolition of derelict beachfront bungalows -- a few of which were being refurbished as homes for incoming opponents of the withdrawal.

"Jews don't expel Jews," chanted protesters as soldiers and police dragged them away kicking and screaming. A youth was stretchered away with an arm injury.

It's interesting that the level of violent injuries suffered by Israelis in opposition to Israeli forces was kept relatively minimal. Of course, the Israelis protesting weren't armed with rocks, nor did the Israeli military use tanks (they used horses instead).

Can anyone tell me again, WHY this is called "the holy land?"

Because it's full of holes. At least, the bodies are.

Were your expectations different? These people are essentially using passive resistance, why would injuries be high?

From the AP article:

"The Jewish militants had welded bars on the hotel windows and laid in supplies of food, water and gasoline for preparing firebombs."

How come this isn't "passive resistance" when the Palestinians do it?

It IS heartening to know, however, that the Israelis are capable of not injuring everyone they confront, and also that Israeli soldiers were protecting a Palestinian man rendered unconscious by rock-throwing Israelis.

:D :D :D

As well as the excuses for putting holes in the bodies, no matter WHICH side is doing it.
