It's responding to ping but not to http. I'd report it there... but it's down.

Renata's sin bin is down as well as the Skeptic Soceity’s forum. I fear that THEY must have found Pixy.

Edited to add:

munu is throwing a hissy:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/tmp/mysql.sock' (11) in /data/home/pixy/mu.nu/Forums/db/mysql4.php on line 48

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /data/home/pixy/mu.nu/Forums/db/mysql4.php on line 330

Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /data/home/pixy/mu.nu/Forums/db/mysql4.php on line 331
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

And Skeptics is being all melodramatic:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

And they are back, it mustn’t have been THEY who got to Pixy, just THEM.

(And very ironically as I was trying to edit the above post I got out notorious "line 40" error"! )

Interesting. When I looked, the web server wasn't responding. So the web service must have come up before the database.

A general rule of thumb that I always operate under is to bring up any N-tiered capability from the back end forwards, so no layer ever has a front interface for a non-functional back-end.

I recently saw a vendor toolkit demo for customizing some medical software and the vendor rep created a data entry field before creating the corresponding column in the data table, and then had to explain her way out of all the compiler errors she got. Seems folks would get it that a deployment plan or at least the back-to-front heuristic is important.

Might I ask what or who is Pixy? A refThread would suffice.

Looks like there was a DOS attack on mu.nu.

Everything appears to be back.

Pixy Misa is the online handle of an Australian sceptic, IT guru and extremely sharp fellow.

The blog at MuNu is usually worth a look.

He hosts SC I think.

Pixy is a veteran here.

Pixy's blog http://ambientirony.mu.nu/

Pixy's server hosts www.skepticalcommunity.com, www.mu.nu (which includes over 100 blogs and a whole bunch of forums including mine) and www.skepticforum.com. There was a movement to have him as a pope, but stupid Vatican went with a European instead.
