This has been a very interesting case to follow over the last few years.

See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4693239.stm

An Afghan citizen was arrested in the UK (thanks to investigations prompted by a BBC reporter), charged with torturing people in Afghanistan and has now been found guilty.

Before this trial I did not know that the UK assumes the power to arrest and place on trial foreign nationals for crimes not committed in the UK or one of its territories (non-war crimes that it is).

Whilst I am pleased about this case it makes it even more disgusting when we've not put other notorious criminals such as Pinochet (yep I'm assuming guilt) on trial when we've had the opportunity. But then I forget that Pinochet was Mrs Thatcher’s friend.

So good news and I hope we now start to do the same for anyone else we find here in similar circumstances.

(Edited for words.)

Well, even Pinochet's defenders aren't pretending he's innocent, just that he was "justified."
