I've typed out a chapter of a novel and forgot to double space it, now it won't me alter it. Is there any way to overide this and double-space it

WORD allows you to select the text you wish to adjust (you can even select everything in the entire document at once) and change the spacing with FORMAT/ Paragraph/ Spacing section/ LINE SPACING (pull down menu) and choose the amount you desire.
You will find that the preferred method is not double spacing, but 1-1/2 line spacing. Looks cleaner.
Now, when your novel becomes a best-seller on the NYT list, remember your pal webby. :)

Thanks Web, I've done it. It's the publishers that want double spacing, so that they can cross off your beloved words and write theirs in over the top.

Yes, standard practice for copyediting is double spacing. Otherwise the copyeditor has to write in the margins, like the proofreader.
