MARTIN REFUSES TO MEET BRITISH PRIME MINISTER (http://contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/martin%20refuses%20to%20meet%20british%20prime%20m inister)

COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN has snubbed British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR's invitation to meet him at his London residence - because the YELLOW star feared it would damage his image.

...

He says, "I'm not going to go. I really like Tony Blair. He's interested in the same things as I am - he plays the guitar and he always gives the impression of doing what he can to help.

"But I don't particularly want to be photographed with him at the moment." Yeah, we wouldn't want to hurt record sales.

Plus it helps to shake the claims that Coldplay is just another U2, because Bono would have gone to 10 Downing Street that same day.

So let me get this straight: no one really cares what "celebrities" think, and most don't understand why they spout off about world issues as though anyone would care what they think, but when one refuses to meet with a politico, he's chided for not wanting to hurt his record sales?

I don't get it.

personally I think that the Martin/ Blair meeting would have done our Tone a lot more harm than good, I mean he gets a thrashing in the press every time he has Oasis round for tea, (not quite as bad as Busted coming out in support of Howard though). All in all I think that the purveyor of ultimate bland has done our glorious leader a bit of a favor.

Actually it's more like this:

Dave Matthews Band is for college kids not cool enough for U2.
Coldplay is for college kids not cool enough for Dave Matthews Band.

Besides, Bono would have gone and pestered Blair about Africa. Which should really be Bono's job. I mean, have you heard most of the stuff off the last two albums? Have you seen those glasses? Have you seen a time machine where we can bring Young Bono to our time to front U2?

C'mon, you just know all Tony wanted was to meet Gwyneth.

This is horrible! British gov't policy will be hopelessly rudderless w/o the input of Coldplay. How will they now collect taxes, fund pensions, determine military strategy, negotiate w/ the Iranians over their nuclear ambitions, verify the IRA's disarming, etc. etc.? I hope Coldplay reconsiders, the fate of the world rests on their shoulders. :(

Goddamn it. I now have the mental image of Coldplay sitting in the massive cathedral like conference room with their giant screen showing Blair pleading with them to help. So the Coldplay guy kisses Gwyneth and Apple and then leaps up into the air with his bandmates and flies off all Supes-style to London.

All set to the tune of "Yellow."

Thanks. Stop giving my geek-brain things to work with.
