View Full Version : Q-link, EMF etc (Information required)

Well, it finally happened - I met someone whose range of beliefs is so diametrically opposite to mine that I was speechless.

My wife and I were round for dinner at the house of some friends when another acquaintance of theirs also turned up for dinner. The guy apologised for being late, the reason being he had just been to a presentation for the Q-Link. These guys have finally made it to the tip of Africa with their amazing product!

Having recalled reading about this thing on this forum, I was about to warn him about the dubious claims of this stuff when he pulled put a nice shiny pendant, showed me his mobile phone with a sticker on it and proclaimed that he had just signed up for around $1,000.

He then went on to explain how the thing is supposed to work and related it to the Bio-Energy Stress Test (using a machine so it must be true) that he had that afternoon. Following this test he had also been prescribed some homeopathic remedies to sort out the problems that the BEST machine had identified.

Later in conversation over dinner he referred to astrology.

Now, I am not a confrontational sort of person and this was not my house and not my friend. I am also of the type who does not wax lyrical unless I am reasonably certain about the subject I am talking about. These factors coupled with my astonishment at the wide range of crap that this guy believed in meant I did not venture more than a few vague comments on how I was sceptical about the claims of these products - what a wuss!

However, he is trying to get our mutual friends into this stuff and I have been more vocal with them regarding the dubious nature of these things. They are also doubtful, and the wife (who was dragged along to a Q-Link presentation) noted that the attempt to prove the efficacy of the Q-Link on cell phone users by way of the "pulling down the arm" demonstration looked pretty staged.

The bottom line is I would like to get more specific debunking information on this Q-Link guff so that I can give my friends concrete, informed reasons as to why it does not work. I am sure there are plenty of people on this forum who are familiar with this garbage (I recall long debates with Coghill on EMF) and knowledgeable about the appropriate physics - can anyone here help?

Thanks in advance.

You cant debate this stuff over dinner so more than a statement that your skeptical to the claims is not possible there.
And by the rest of the post it seems like you have already done what is possible, speak with your friend afterwards and express your concern for his financial wellbeing.
And what is there to debunk? Its just mumbo-jumbo from beginning to end.

Edit: The only way to entirely protect you from EMF is to live in a box made of solid metal on all sides (AFAIK), slightly inconvenient if you ask me.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the same argument against the cell phone emissions used 20 years earlier on power lines?

If it was debunked then...

Then again I may be remembering what the Q-Link is incorrectly. If I am I apologise.

Yes, the cellphones seem to be it's major line of attack but it also apparently goes on abot TVs, fridges and anything else electric in your house.

Of course. This belief is of the same cloth as the urban legend that microwaving your food with a plastic container is going to give you cancer.

We are talking about irrationality.

Well, yeah, stands to reason, EM is the boogyman of the 21st century. One the one hand, certain "vibrations" will heal you at incredable rates, and on the other, they'll kill you deader than Nixon.

They're invisible, untouchable, untastable and ubiquious. I have to go through great pains to get accurate measuments (I'm a EMC Compliance engineer) to proove that my equipment meets the standards. You would be suprized to find out some of the crap that people that should "know better" think about RF.

So, rack this Q-link up on the evergrowing pile of detrius that we're going to be (and have been) barraged with for the rest of our lives.
