President Bush and Colin Powell are sitting in a bar. A guy walks in and
asks the barman, "Isn't that Bush and Powell sitting over there?"
The barman says, "Yep, that's them."
So the guy walks over and says, "Wow, this is a real honor. What are you
guys doing in here?"
Bush says, "We're planning WWIII ".
And the guy says, "Really? What's going to happen?"
Bush says, "Well, we're going to kill 140 million Iraqis and one blonde with
big hooters."
The guy exclaimed, "A blonde with big hooters? Why kill a blonde with big
hooters?"
Bush turns to Powell, punches him on the shoulder and says, "See smart ass,
I told you no one would worry about the 140 million Iraqis."

Ari Fleischer admits Bush called from a prepared list of reporters (Media)

March 7th, 2003, at an official press briefing, White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer twice admitted under questioning that the President's staff preselected which reporters to call, and the order, for the East Room Press Conference on the evening of March 6th, 2003. This Press Conference was President Bush's eighth solo news conference since inauguration, and the second formally presented in the East Room during prime time.

Mr. Fleischer responded to a reporter's query over a short gaffe in which the President was heard to say to a reporter, "You'll be there in a moment," upon which he then called CNN correspondent John King and remarked "...this is a scripted...[pause]", after which an outburst of laughter from the press pool could be heard. The president then moved directly onto the next question. An audio excerpt of this gaff is available from this Buzzflash commentary.

Dear AUP:

I have felt since the Regan administration that there is some sort of control of the questions at the press conferences. No real proof just my paranoia.
It seems however that many reporters ask questions that I would want asked if I were the president, it also seems that there are very few reporters who ask questions that the President does not want asked. Where is Sam Donaldson? He used to really harras the president alot. (Did i miss his death?)

Peace

In all fairness, I do not if the current Bush scripts questions and press conferences, however the first Bush did sort of thing and was actually caught doing it.

There was one case where the elder Bush wanted to show how tough on drugs he was, so a couple of DEA agents talked a drug dealer into selling them some stuff across the street from the White House. They busted the guy and the next day the elder Bush got wave around a little white plastic bag at a press conference and rant about what is being sold across the street from the White House.

Later it was admitted that he drug dealer was from way across town and that the agents had to offer him a good bit of money to sell drugs next to the White House. Also, it was noted that due to the high security, there were no dealers in this area, so one had to be imported.

Still further, when the elder Bush was running for re-election, he would do a live feed with a different local news station during their noon show and take a question or two. It was a rather good display, cheap to do, and showed that he had not forgotten about regular Americans.

However, once when this was done someone forgot to turn off the mike connected to Bush and one could plainly hear that he knew what the question was going to be and that they should something like it for tomorrow's show.

Later, it was admitted that he did know the question and the answer in advance, but that was done just to save time.

Ugh!

The scripted news conference thing was reported at the time....he was reading from a teleprompter and wasn't supposed to read that part....he can't walk and talk at the same time, and has admitted that.....heard the joke before in reference to Afghanistan....its a keeper.....
I was so depressed over my last round of golf that I told my caddy I was going to jump in the pond and drown myself.
He said, "I don't think you can keep your head down that long."
