Middeast redux...

I'm not assigning blame to one side or the other - the Kurds forced to leave their cities by Saddam, or the Arabs who were moved in using cash incentives.

But how to resolve the redistribution of land the Kurds want, and possibly deserve, back is a thorny issue.

I expect we may see suicide bombers from one side against the other. But I hope it can be resolved more peacefully than other, similar disputes were.

I doubt we will see suicide bombers, as we will not be building permanent refugee camps.

In the article, the Arabs were threatening to suicide bomb the Kurds.

I see your point Ben and you're right about the similarities.

The time factor is not as significant but human nature being what it is I'm afraid you have probably correctly identified another hard to resolve hot-spot.

The Kurds have a deeply entrenched mindset concerning their desire to regain control of their traditional homelands and to establish an independent nation and I don't see them giving that up anytime soon.

The fact that their traditional homelands are already divided among several nations certainly increases the chances of this escalating into international problem.

It's been simmering for years and we know that Turkey is very uncomfortable with the whole situation.
