There is a new TV show starting on the BBC here in England tonight called Medium. It's an American show that the Radio Times (listing mag) says is big in America.

"Patricia Arquette stars as real-life research spiritualist Allison Dubois in this captivating drama, seeking justice for those who no longer have a voice."

Have any of you Americans seen this show? And have any of you heard of this 'real-life' spiritualist Allison Dubois? She claims to have worked for the Texas Rangers - who claim not to use psychics.

Has she been properly tested?

As a completley fictional show, I found 'Medium' quite entertaining.... they make the character apealing, with no trace of peddling snake oil, or trying to get publicity from her 'abilities'.

The claims of the real life Dubois are more in the vein of comedy.

The show has been on in Australia for some time but I haven't watched it. It didn't generate much interest as far as I can tell. Alison Dubois has visited Australia. Australian skeptics and others have stated that some of her claims (such as that she has assisted the Texas Rangers in her capacity as a 'psychic') are completely unsubstantiated.

Wait...in a thread called "medium rare?", you are saying it is well-done?

Thanks for the info and the links. It's much as I suspected. How handy that her boss at the law firm hires her to be a spooky consultant. When she says to him 'I'm either a bit psychic or a bit psycho' he immediately assumes the former. If only all bosses were so understanding.

Medium is pretty much the same as Without a Trace, only with spookiness.

I liked the BBC link, Crimresearch. The French must all have that bit of the brain missing, as they are notoriously bad at recognising sarcasm.

You're only getting this now? It's been on Norwegian TV2 for weeks, and I want to commit murder each time I see it in the listings, or get a preview for this week's show. :D

I don't mind the fiction. What annoys me are the TV magazines saying "based on the true story of the medium who helps the police..."

It's part of the autumn schedule. We don't get much good TV during the summer. All the new US shows start in September - the latest Six Feet Under just started here too. No sign of The Sopranos yet though, or Carnivale. Still, I suppose you need some compensation for living in such a chilly country.

They only repeat what it says on press releases. The production company of the drama perpetuate the lies. But they in turn are lied to by Dubois....;)
