This is an interesting conundrum, though wether it goes in this forum I dont know(but no doubt will find out!)
When I was a child and was ill or couldnt sleep and was up with my parent, the night seemed forever and a magical or mysterious time. Was it because of no 24/7 TV or due to a childs perception of time?
Now as an adult it seems less.Any thoughts.Or am I deranged?;)

Well, you might indeed be deranged, but this probably isn't one of the symptoms.
I think the middle of the night has disappeared because, as grown ups, we have things to do in the morning.

I used to pretend that I was sleeping and wait till my parents were asleep (usually around 11:00) climb out the window meet up with a friend and do various stupid things and pranks. Probably the funniest one to me was when we went around the neighborhood and swapped everyones garden hoses with their neighbors. Boy there was a lot of neighbors out talking and trying to figure out what happened the next day! Yeah so it was a magical time in my neighborhood.
